Treats: A facial at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park

london-exterior-views-8

A couple of weeks ago in a moment of extravagance I booked a facial at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in Knightsbridge for no other reason than that I deserve it and my skin was looking a bit rubbish and needed a bit of  a pep. I decided to go for the 1hr20min ‘Time for Face’ which means I got a consultation and a bespoke treatment based on that. They use a mix of Gaylia Kristensen and Aromatherapy Associates products.

I was expecting a luxurious treat but from the get go the experience was pretty special. On arrival I was greeted with a organic jasmine and camomile tea, a hot cloth and slippers and my coat and bag was checked in. The spa is BEAUTIFUL  – it’s in the basement of the hotel and is dark and cocoon like with a Thai style interior. I was guided downstairs to the changing rooms and shown around the day spa facilities I could use before my treatment. The changing rooms are seriously well thought out with rainforest showers, products you might need, more tea, bottled water, a private safe (for your mega bucks diamonds I’m assuming) in your locker, spare toothbrushes and razors – yes they’ve thought of everything.Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Review

The day spa has a steam room, a vitality pool (a fancy large plunge pool with a program of jet massages) and sauna. This was awesome and genuinely relaxing. Next was on to the relaxation room with adjustable day beds, homemade cookies, more tea, magazines and fruit to wait for my therapist.

The treatment rooms were well lit, the beds mega comfy – heated and soft and the music peaceful and relaxing. At the start of the treatment my therapist checked that I was happy with all of the above which was a really nice touch. After analysing my skin we decided some major rehydrating and relaxing facial massage were needed. The next hour or so was spent in a semi-comotose state and it was so much more than a facial with a neck, scalp and shoulder massage, as well as treatment on my hands and arms.

The verdict: for the relaxation and recharge benefits it was worth every penny – plus the day spa and other facilities meant it was much more than a standard facial
